What is an Immediate Dental Implant?
An immediate implant doesn't refer to a distinct type of dental implant but rather to a modified timeline for placement compared to the traditional method. In the traditional approach, a dental implant is inserted into healed jawbone, typically three to six months post-tooth extraction.
In contrast, with an immediate implant, the waiting period for bone healing post-extraction is bypassed. Instead of extracting the tooth and waiting for bone healing, the immediate implant is placed during the same visit as the extraction. Consequently, the jawbone heals simultaneously around both the extraction socket and the dental implant.
What are the Advantages of an Immediate Dental Implant?
One of the main benefits of getting an immediate implant is the reduced waiting time. It can cut the time between tooth extraction and having a fully functional dental implant in half! The quicker the implant heals, the sooner we can restore it to its full appearance and function.
Another advantage is the possibility of using an immediate provisional crown over the implant. Typically, dental implants heal under the gums without anything filling the visible missing tooth space. However, with an immediate implant, in certain cases, we can immediately place a provisional crown over it. If this option is not suitable for your specific situation, we will provide a safe and reliable way to fill in the missing tooth space for the long-term health of your implant.
